About the role
Join us as a Senior Underwriter to play your part in that transformation. It’s an opportunity to grow your skills and experience as a valued member of the team.
Responsibilities
- You will be empowered with significant underwriting authority to negotiate and make sound business decisions in order to deliver regional financial targets.
- You will assist the regional construction lead in developing and executing on strategic initiatives.
- You will work with brokers in real-time and make quick decisions.
- You will provide a streamlined service to brokers, by following the “Underwriting Rules & Guidelines” and by using existing pricing tools / modelling tools / MI tools.
- You will collaborate with local distribution to establish a “pipeline” of target accounts across all lines of Insurance, not just Construction.
- You will use existing reports/data to monitor profitability trends across your portfolio.
- You will keep abreast of market developments, especially in your region.
- You will have a thorough understanding of policy forms / contracts but will also work with our in house legal team and outside counsel on complex coverage issues.
- You will develop strong long term relationships with brokers and clients, providing superior service to establish mutually beneficial partnerships.
- Provide training and support to junior members of the team.
Requirements
- Construction underwriting experience, preferably at a large international insurance company.
- You have recognized relationships with clients and brokers at peer group level and are well established within the market.
- You have a thorough understanding of regional / local Engineering & Construction insurance markets and competitor landscape.
- You have a thorough understanding of policy wordings and relevant industry developments.
- You have the ability to work quickly and effectively in a small team, helping the regional construction team to hit their targets.
- You are capable of leveraging data and analytics to make business more efficient and effective.
- You have excellent negotiation skills, ability to build, maintain and expand relationship with key broker partners and clients.
- You have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
- You should be results-oriented.
- Preferably, you have a degree either in engineering/construction, economics, law or other appropriate discipline.
- Ideally you are ACII qualified or working towards it.
