CNA

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), under the direction of a Licensed Practitioner, Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides basic nursing care and assists with activities of daily living to a designated group of healthcare consumers.

• Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care
• Provides basic patient care activities based on the plan of care and as delegated
• Documents cares provided in the healthcare consumer’s record
• Maintains a safe work environment
• Fosters a collaborative environment in support of the nursing profession
• Performs clerical functions to include filing, maintaining patient logs, generating reports, records, and scheduling patient appointments
• Sets priorities for response and communicates with appropriate personnel
• Responds appropriately in emergency situations as support for clinical staff

• Require active certification as a Nurse Assistant on the Nebraska and/or Iowa Nurse Aide Registry depending on the state worked
• Basic Life Support is required upon hire
• Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications – American Heart Association: Basic Life Support
• Skilled Nursing Facility Only: Must have successfully completed the 75-hour state approved course for Nursing Assistant if hired into the Nursing Assistant position after April 30, 1998
