Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care to include assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of assigned patients.
  • Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes.
  • Completes and documents initial nursing assessment within specified time frame.
  • Assesses patient as ongoing process utilizing physician and psychosocial input and documents in the chart.
  • Initiates and documents a written plan of care within specified timeframe
  • Evaluates care given to patient and redirects plan as necessary.
  • Indicates evaluation as an ongoing process in the medical record.
  • Updates written care plan to reflect current patient status as an ongoing process.
  • Participates in meeting the health care educational needs for the patient and family.
  • Determines educational needs of patient and family through daily assessment.
  • Develops and documents plan of education on written care plan. Alters educational plan as patient’s condition changes.
  • Reflects teaching and patient/family level of understanding with documentation throughout hospitalization.
  • Coordinates care with other health professionals.
  • Carries out physician’s treatment plan continuously.
  • Displays ability and willingness to respond to the needs of other health team members as needed.
  • Performs patient interventions completely and proficiently and demonstrates age specific competency for population of patients served.
  • Prioritizes activities and adjusts assignments according to changes in patient’s needs.
  • Provides appropriate treatment in emergency situations as they arise.
  • Verifies, during hospitalization, orders for accuracy (including reconciliation of medications), appropriate scheduling of tests and/or procedures, pre-op data, and consent forms.
  • Follows medication and IV Therapy policies including patient identification, understanding about medications, administering meds and recognizing/reporting interactions 100% of the time.
  • Appropriately monitors first dose medication(s) for adverse reactions.
  • Interprets diagnostic data and takes appropriate action when indicated (i.e. notification of critical lab values to physician per hospital protocol).
  • Practices infection control in all actions.
  • Executes legible writing with correct spelling in documentation 100% of the time.
  • Completes all assignments, according to established standards of care and within given time frame

Requirements

  • Associates degree in Nursing required.
  • Minimum Experience: One year of maternal/child experience preferred.
