About the role
The Security Officer II performs security service duties through professional and positive interaction with the public, patients, employees, and administrators. Responds to a variety of calls; provides assistance in emergency and non-emergency situations. Investigates and documents safety hazards, incidents, and criminal activities. Patrols designated areas to ensure the protection of the public, patients, employees, and property. Actively participates in customer service and maintains respectful relationships. Requires completion and clearance from physiological and physical fitness screenings.
Responsibilities
- Proactively patrols assigned areas and performs all security related tasks, ensuring life safety standards are maintained.
- Investigates suspicious activity or persons.
- Responds to events of varying degrees of vulnerability, including high vulnerability such as life-threatening events, natural disasters.
- Participates in activities not directly related to Security operations as approved by Security Management.
- Acknowledges and responds appropriately to emergency, non-emergency and alarm calls.
- Uses good judgment to safely determine the alarm cause, takes appropriate action and/or provides proper assistance and direction.
- Administers initial first aid as appropriate.
- Monitors vehicle and pedestrian traffic on or in AdventHealth properties.
- Interviews and investigates individuals involved in suspicious or illegal activities.
- Detains unauthorized individuals as defined by policy or state law and releases them to proper authorities.
- Investigates and documents incidents and criminal activities.
- Conducts annual security assessments of hospital properties.
- Uses force when appropriate to protect customers and associates.
- Floats to various campuses to provide security support.
Requirements
- Ability to read accurately and comprehend, write clearly, and understand to effectively complete legal reports and follow directions.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply safety rules, penal codes, radio codes, reports, memos, communications, policies, and other written materials.
- Ability to actively listen and communicate effectively through clear speech and hearing.
- Ability to safely operate vehicles, equipment, and communication devices without risk to self or others.
- Computer literacy with ability to use basic hospital/security applications and information management systems.
- Good critical thinking skills, and ability to set and quickly reset priorities.
- Able to work and train in an environment with occurring periods of crisis and stress.
- Ability to recognize faces.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters pertaining to patients, visitors, and employees.
- Ability to work independently within a team-oriented environment; ability to work closely with medical and nursing staff.
- Ability to identify recurring security operation issues, collaborate with leadership to problem solve and develop solutions.
- Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to diplomatically handle stressful situations.
- Basic computer skills including, but not limited to, Windows, Word and Excel.
- Knowledge of Access Control and CCTV systems (preferred).
- Understanding of Emergency Management principles (preferred).
- High School Grad or Equiv / 0 years experience (required).
- Applicable state driver's license and driving record in accordance with AdventHealth policy (required).
- International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Basic Training certification or equivalent certification within six months of hire (required).
- Meets departmental testing (required).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (preferred).
- Handcuffing or equitable national certification (preferred).
- Pepper Spray or equitable national certification (preferred).
- Baton or equitable national certification (preferred).
- TASER International – Conducted Electrical Weapon certification (preferred).
- Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) training certificates (preferred).
