About the role

The Referral Specialist, under the direction of the Referral Specialist Manager, is responsible for receiving and processing referral requests in a centralized call center environment. Processes medical record requests pertinent to the referrals as well as obtains authorizations as needed. Serves as a liaison between patients and medical office support staff in regards to referrals and appointment scheduling.

Directs patients to the appropriate specialists and vendors according to their insurance. Takes accurate and legible messages, including time, date and other pertinent details. Answers non-clinical questions for patients and routes all other calls as appropriate.
