Charge Nurse

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the delivery of nursing and nursing-related care to residents of the Washington Veterans Home
  • Supervise frontline staff
  • Maintain healthcare records according to current policies and procedures
  • Administer medications and treatments for members unable to do their own or monitor self-pour medications of residents
  • Maintain incident log and provide learning experiences and feedback regarding incidents for direct care staff on the unit
  • Encourage and empower residents and staff to meet residents' needs and requirements in a respectful and homelike environment
  • Help present training and share information with team/staff
  • Assume responsibility for self-development by awareness of new techniques and medications

Requirements

  • Valid Washington state registered nurse license or unencumbered registered nurse multistate license
  • Possess accurate methods and practices of nursing and restorative care, personal hygiene and sanitation methods, recordkeeping, report preparation, infection control procedures, and resident rights
  • Ability to assess, evaluate, and participate in the development of appropriate plans of care
  • Plan, implement, and document appropriate discharge planning for residents when appropriate and perform selected nursing procedures
  • Provide a positive living environment for residents relating to meeting psychosocial needs and document and report observed changes in patient condition and behavior
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the English language and be able to read, write and speak English
  • Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing
  • One (1) year of professional nursing experience
